Frequently asked questions
Q: How is HUD a part of Bethany Towers?
A: Bethany Towers has a mortgage with HUD and also has
a contract with HUD.
The contract offers financial subsidy to
"moderate to low income" residents, paying
Bethany Towers a portion of their rent, based on a
financial formula set by HUD.
Q: Who Qualifies?
A: HUD's rules have changed from time to time on this.
Consistently, persons 62 years of age qualify. Over the
time that Bethany Towers has been in operation, the
definition of eligible persons younger than 62, has
changed a few times. Eligibility has been related to a
disability or handicap in the past. The specific wording
is that the person must first of all, be financially
eligible and require the special accessible features
provided in the 17 apartments specifically designed.
Q: If I need a nursing home or personal care,
can I go next door to Bethany Village?
A: Bethany Towers is not a part of Bethany Village's continuum of care. Residents who need more assistance
than they can arrange through community supports, choose
from any number of facilities in the region, based on
their medical need and ability to pay.
Q: Can I bring a pet?
A: If you mean a traditional fur-bearing animal, such
as a cat or dog, the answer is yes, provided it does not
exceed our 25 lb weight limit policy.
Q: Is there a waiting list?
A: Always. How long of a wait depends on how HUD tells
us to prioritize applications. The "standard
wait" is usually around 2.5 years.
Q: Is there an application fee and must I
apply in person?
A: There is no fee and you may simply call or write
requesting we send you an application and brochure. When
we receive the hard copy of the application with an
original signature of the applicant, your application is
reviewed and acknowledged in writing.
